Humanitarian Aid
As part of our humanitarian programme, we provide assistance to those affected by war in their greatest hour of need. We supply them with the things they most urgently need. Overall, our aid efforts serve to strengthen resilience, ensure the supply of basic necessities and provide other support to vulnerable population groups, especially internally displaced persons and children.
Provision & repair of critical infrastructure
Since the start of the war, medical facilities have been under even greater strain than before. We support them with medicines, furniture, pillows, blankets, mattresses and rehabilitation materials, among other things. Green Cross Switzerland is also involved in repairing buildings that are of vital importance to the community. In 2024, for example, the roof of a school in Sosnytsya was repaired. We are currently helping this school by installing much more energy-efficient windows and doors, which will be a great help, especially in the cold winter.
Support for emergency shelters for educational institutions
School lessons in war-torn areas often must be interrupted or moved to shelters due to alarm warnings. However, these are not always adequately equipped. We therefore provide furniture, tables, chairs, sofas, beds and various relief supplies for shelters in schools and kindergartens.
Essentials for war victims
Especially on the front lines, families affected by war, internally displaced persons and communities in precarious situations often lack the bare necessities. Green Cross therefore distributes targeted packages of basic foodstuffs as well as sets of hygiene and household items.
‘Seeds of Hope’ project
As part of this project, vegetable and herb seeds are distributed annually to help war victims cultivate their own gardens and improve their food security through self-sufficiency. The people who receive these seeds are war-affected families, often internally displaced, from financially disadvantaged backgrounds. In 2024, the summer harvest covered the average vegetable needs of a family of four for around two months.
