The ten most dangerous sources of environmental toxins in the year 2012
Sources of Environmental Toxins Endanger 125 Million People Worldwide
The new Environmental Toxin Report 2012, published jointly by the environmental organisation Green Cross Switzerland and the Blacksmith Institute based in New York, identifies the world’s ten most dangerous sources of environmental toxins.
The Environmental Toxin Report 2012 estimates the health burdens caused by sources of environmental toxins and contaminants in “Disability Adjusted Life Years” (DALY). The years lost due to premature death and the negative impact on the quality of life due to illness are recorded with the help of these DALY. On the basis of these collected data, approximately 17 million DALY are due to toxic substances from sources of environmental toxins in the 49 countries investigated.
The Environmental Toxin Report 2012 identifies the world’s ten most dangerous sources of environmental toxins and quantifies, for the first time, the global scale of health damage due to toxic substances.
